After a couple of months letting the talent of NMW compete in various companies around the world as part of the VWWA, New Millennium Wrestling came back with a vengeance to the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas this past Friday. Thanks to NMW fan Ed Gomez for sending these results in. And remember, if you want to be a NMW correspondant, just comment on this with your city, state or province and country so you can help us report on all the companies joined together in the Virtual World Wrestling Alliance.
The Toyota Center was alive with a ruley crowd of about five-thousand people. Before the show, the Godz of Metal were signing autographs. Thorvaldr is a huge guy but Dirk Platinum was a dick. He was acting like he was too good to be in Houston.
Match # 1: The Trooper vs David Van Damme
Solid back and forth lasting just a few minutes. Quick match, but that was to be expected for the opener. I've heard David Van Damme was a top champion at a company before coming to New Millennium, but this match he was just off. Not sure if it was ring rust or just that he didn't have any passion for this match but The Trooper out-shined DVD and looked good doing it.
WINNER by pinfall: The Trooper
Match # 2: Craig Titan vs Mascara Azteca
Mascara had some great luchador offense but it wouldn't be enough. It's always fun to see who else besides me enjoys seeing a luchador flip around the ring. Great way to get the blood pumping as we head further into the show.
WINNER by pinfall: Craig Titan
Match # 3: Shelly the Bod w/ Duke Atkins vs Catherine Boucher
Shelly showed off her impressive strength with a squash match victory. Seeing the difference between these two women, this ending wasn't surprising but still showed some great athleticism from Shelly.
WINNER by submission: Shelly the Bod
Match # 4: Rocco Nicoletti vs Karate Jones
Variety of styles, brawler vs martial artist. As they moved around the ring, I found myself drawn to watch Karate Jones. He reminded me of every blacksploitation film of the 70's and immediately brought out a sense of entertainment.
WINNER by referee stoppage: Karate Jones with an impressive spinning back kick to the face
Half way through the show I hard half the crowd booing loudly. I looked over to see Loody Graves taunting the fans. I was amazed to see Loody back and a lot of us were wondering if he is coming to NMW. I've been watching bootlegs of Loody in Japan lately and he's looking good. I hope this means we could be seeing him come to New Millennium, even if just for one match that would be so epic.
Match # 5:Falls Count Anywhere Match:
Dr. Sawbones vs William Butcher
This match went all over the place and had a variety of weapons used. I was on the edge of my seat for this match. Chairs and sticks and even 2x4s were used and even bloodied, Doctor Sawbones was able to take the pinfall win in the crowd between a few spectators.
WINNER by pinfall: Dr. Sawbones
Match # 6: Wonder Woman Superfan vs Lexi Rogers
It was a classic tale of power vs speed as Lexi tried to mount an offense against her larger opponent. In the end, Superfan was able to bring Lexi in for a large powerslam to earn the pinfall victory. I was very impressed by Superfan and cant' wait to see her climb the ladder to challenge the NMW Women's Champion.
WINNER by pinfall: Wonder Woman Superfan
Match # 7/NMW Millennium Championship Match:
DavidHawk Actor vs Stan Warbaum (c)
Earlier in the night, DavidHawk Actor made his way to the ring and said he was there to show New Millennium what a true Champion was like. The reigning NMW Champion, Stan Warbaum walked out, not happy to hear David disrespecting him and offered him a chance to find out if David was as good as he thought himself to be. The match was very fast paced with Stan using his high-flying skills to try and keep David off-balance but one mistake was all it took to turn the tide. Stan lept off the top rope and got struck down with a spinning crane kick from Actor, giving David the opening for the three count to become the new NMW Millennium Champion. I wasn't happy with David walking in and becoming the top champion in New Millennium but knowing he's supposed to make me hate him, it's working.
