Founded in 1992 by, what was at the time a loose collection of professional wrestling promotions through out the continental United States, with limited involvement from a handful of Canadian and Mexican promotions, the Virtual World Wrestling Alliance, VWWA was created to codify an agreed to set of rules, regulations and guidelines for the betterment of Professional Wrestling as a whole. Central to the over all goal of the VWWA was to crown a true “Worlds” men, women and tag team championships.
Membership of the VWWA has fluctuated over the proceeding two decades since its founding, as the majority of American promotions have folded into the current landscape of the so called “Big Three” the former West Coast Championship Wrestling, now known as New Millennium Wrestling based out of Los Angeles California, All American Pro Wrestling, based in Chicago, and the largest promotion in the world currently, Prime Time Pro, based out of New York and Atlanta, combined with the rise of foreign market promotions.
Currently the VWWA stands strong with a total of twenty six promotions across all the continents of the world, recent years have seen a dedicated push to expand professional wrestling into the long untapped and uncharted waters of Eurasia, specifically Russia and China, and with the creation of Russkiy Assotsiatsiya bor'by (Russian Wrestling Association) in Moscow and Shénmì de lóng cùxiāo (Mystic Dragon Promotion) based in Hong Kong the VWWA hopes to see further developments in the two regions in the years to come.
